About Community Housing Network

Community Housing Network is a nonprofit organization committed to providing homes for people in need through proven strategies of homelessness prevention, housing assistance and development, community education and referral, advocacy, and additional services. We carry out our work in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.

We help people who are homeless, people with disabilities, and anyone in housing crisis. Our Housing Resource Center, a one-stop-shop for all things housing, directs people to resources at Community Housing Network and other organizations. We collaborate closely with our community partners to provide the highest level of service possible to those who need it most.

Our programs and services include:

- Housing Resource Center:
A one-stop shop for people with housing questions. The Housing Resource Center's roommate database, housing planning library, and publications such as "Getting Your Own Address" have helped hundreds of people in need move on to long-term, sustainable housing.

- Supportive Housing: Our supportive housing programs provide decent, affordable housing for people in need, while helping them remain connected to important supportive services. Last year alone, our supportive housing programs housed over 500 previously homeless adults and children. Ninety individuals and families graduated from our supportive housing programs last year, moving on to greater independence. Three participants purchased their own homes.

- Affordable Housing Development: We actively seek out opportunities to work with local, state and federal agencies to create new affordable housing stock, with an end goal of increasing the number of affordable housing units in our area. Since 2001, we have accessed more than $2.3 million in local HOME and Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program grant funds, resulting in over 320 units of affordable housing for people in need.

- Community Education and Advocacy: Every day, we work hard to educate the community about affordable housing options and how to take advantage of available resources. We do this through our Housing Resource Center available on our website and by phone, Speakers Bureau featuring workshops and presentations, our Housing Assistance Newsletter, Home Buyer Program and Independent Living Club meetings that help over 1,600 with disabilities each year. We're also active in making elected officials and civic leaders aware of important issues affecting affordable housing and the people we serve.

- Homeless Management Information System (HMIS): Recognized by HUD in 2006 for outstanding achievement in HMIS implementation, we continue to take the lead on this important program by serving as the Coordinator/Administrator for Oakland County. HMIS assists homeless service providers by capturing important information about the people they serve, as well as providing and validating important statistics about homelessness to providers, governmental bodies and the press.

- Property Management Services: Our property management services include property inspections, tenant selection and certification, and property maintenance for 304 group homes and individual residences.
