Baseball Greats Help End Homelessness
Community Housing Network hosts "Homerun for Homelessness"

Troy, MI-Did you know that the average age of a homeless person is only nine? On Thursday, September 20, 2007 members of the public will have an opportunity to help end homelessness and spend an exciting evening with baseball greats. Community Housing Network, Inc. (CHN) and the HOMES Coalition are sponsoring the 7th annual Home Run for Homelessness banquet and auction featuring Tiger Great and 1984 World Series Pitcher, Milt Wilcox and other Tiger Alumni. The event will be held from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. at Andiamo Italia, 7096 East 14 Mile Road, in Warren.

Proceeds from the evening will help CHN continue their efforts to end homelessness by providing affordable housing to homeless persons, those with disabilities, and other disenfranchised members of Oakland and Macomb Counties. "I reject the premise that there will ever be an acceptable level of homelessness in our community. The price of homelessness is simply too high, in both human and economic terms," said Marc Craig, CHN President and CEO.

Since 2001, CHN has provided over 250 units of affordable housing and supportive services for 370 previously homeless persons who continue to thrive in their new homes. The organization manages 200 group homes in Oakland County, and has helped twelve low-income families with disabilities become home owners. CHN continues to end homelessness by creating more affordable housing for families at risk, so they do not have to become homeless. The HOMES Coalition is dedicated to raising funds to help solve the affordable housing dilemma that face people with disabilities.

"We can end homelessness in our community, this is not just a dream, but we need help to make this happen" Marc Craig stated. There are several ways of STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE to help make this event a success. Individual event tickets can be purchased for $100 each. Auction items can be donated and volunteer and/or sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information or to purchase event tickets contact Event Chairperson, Barbara Garrett at 248-928-0111.
