8th Annual Home Run for Homelessness
Mitch Albom Guest Speaker at Community Housing Network Banquet
Warren, MI- On September 23rd the Community Housing Network (CHN) and HOMES Coalition are hosting the 8th Annual Home Run for Homelessness. This fundraising dinner and silent auction will be held at Andiamo Italia Ristorante in Warren, MI and feature special guest speaker, Mitch Albom. Albom will join Master of Ceremonies, Ed Foxworth and strolling musician Rinaldo will provide the entertainment for this lively benefit event.
With the Michigan housing market experiencing severe difficulties, lack of affordable housing has become a challenge for many persons living with disabilities in our local communities. Every year 600,000 families with 1.35 million children experience homelessness in the United States. The average age of a homeless person is nine, and a disproportionate number of these families have members with disabilities. According to a 2006 study, Oakland County alone is home to more than 1,313 disabled persons currently seeking housing and assistance.
Community Housing Network, Inc. and the HOMES Coalition are two non-profit organizations dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness for persons living with disabilities. One thankful consumer wrote, "I have gone through financial challenges and a resulting foreclosure that had a dramatic impact on my home of 25 years...a personal museum of memories of my wife and my first home in a beautiful community. Her passing due to losing a battle with cancer added to the emotional value of my lost home... My hope is that others with undeserved challenges would benefit from Community Housing Network's dedication to helping those in need."
The banquet will raise awareness and support for the disabled homeless in the local communities. With the donations raised, CHN can continue purchasing, managing, and providing affordable housing for at-risk or currently homeless individuals and families.
