CHN receives Community Foundation grant to address needs of Oakland families facing eviction

July 7, 2014 – Troy, MI – Community Housing Network, Inc. (CHN) has been awarded a two-year $50,000 grant from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan to address the needs of Oakland County families who are facing eviction. This demonstration program will focus on families between 30 and 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI), a population that is currently not able to access rental assistance.   more

CHN invites people to help with annual Adopt A Family program

November 22, 2013 -- TROY, MI -- Community Housing Network (CHN) recently launched its annual Adopt A Family program through our offices in Troy and Wayne and is seeking individuals, organizations, schools and other groups to help with its efforts. With support from the community, Adopt A Family hopes to provide more than 600 families and individuals who are engaged in CHN's supportive services with basic necessities -- and a wish or two -- this holiday season.

Volunteers and donors are crucial to making the 10th year of Adopt A Family a success. Wish lists will be provided for families or individuals, many of whom are formerly homeless, and/or have a disability. Many gift recipient wish lists include basic items such as warm coats, boots, hats and gloves. Donors are asked to shop for items from the list, spending no more than $100 per recipient, and return the new and unused gifts wrapped and labeled by December 9.    more

Community Housing Network honored as a Detroit Free Press Top 100 Workplace

November 18, 2013 – Troy, MI – For the second year in a row, Community Housing Network (CHN) has been honored as one of the Detroit Free Press Top 100 Workplaces. In the 2013 competition, CHN ranked No. 17 in the Small Top Workplace category, eight points above their 2012 placement as No. 25.

Community Housing Network raises $100,000 at 2013 Bring it Home event

October 28, 2013 -- Troy, MI – Metro Detroit nonprofit CommunityHousing Network (CHN) raised more than $100,000 at its 13 annual fundraiser, now named Bring it Home, held October 10 at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester. Money raised from the event will boost funding for the Housing Resource Center, (HRC) our one-stop shop connecting members of the community with information, referral and resources to all applicable programs and services that may benefit them, even beyond housing.   more

Community Housing Network to invest $9 million in 32-home Unity Park Rental development

July 22, 2013 – Troy, MI – Community Housing Network has announced the construction of 32 scattered-site, single family, lease-to-purchase homes in the eastern half of Unity Park, Pontiac. The targeted construction start is October 2013 with completion of all 32 homes, which will be available for residents of mixed income levels, slated for the fall of 2014. Two-, three- and four-bedroom homes will be available.   more

March 22, 2013 -- TROY, MI – Marc Craig, president of Community Housing Network was honored as a Leader of Leaders by Leadership Oakland during an event at the Townsend Hotel, Birmingham, March 21. He was a member of LOXV, Leadership Oakland Class No. 15.

Leadership Oakland stated: "Marc Craig, LOXV, has long held a vision of helping disenfranchised members of society live in their own homes. Since 2001, he has led the Community Housing Network from a staff of three with limited budget and services, to a team of more than 85 and a budget of $12.7 million. The collective impact is that thousands of people in need now have a safe, decent and affordable place to live.   more

Jim Clary, marine artist, offers a way to help fellow veterans through CHN

November 19, 2012 –Troy, MI – Jim Clary, marine artist and veteran, is combining his passion for maritime art and his dedication to helping fellow veterans in his community beginning in this season of Thanksgiving and Veterans Day. Clary is donating a limited number of signed collector prints on a first-come basis to people making a contribution to Community Housing Network's veteran housing services. CHN's veteran housing services help veterans who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, by removing barriers to housing with the assistance of security deposits and utility deposits.   more

The ribbon has been cut for Unity Park Rentals!



The weather was perfect for the Unity Park Rentals ribbon cutting July 15 in Pontiac. Some of the 32 new, lease-to-purchase homes were open and tours were available through the neighborhood. Double your donation! The Quell Group will generously match your donation to the CHN Furniture Fund Sept. 1-30, up to a total of $800 in donations, as part of their 20 Acts of Kindness Campaign! Help us raise a total of $1,600 in September to help CHN program participants, formerly homeless families and individuals, furnish their new living spaces and create a sense of home.
A donation of $160 could help a family receive a gently-used full mattress with box spring, sofa, dining table, dining chairs, and dresser, with delivery to their home, through our partnership with the Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan. Every once in a while a special donation shows up at Community Housing Network. "It's not ever much,” says donor Duane Ott. "But CHN has made all the difference for me living the kind of life I choose to live versus the life of abject poverty. I can't remember how I got along before CHN.”   more
