If you are looking for an opportunity to make a "hands on" difference in the fight to end homelessness; volunteering at Community Housing Network can be the answer. We need caring people who can give of their time and energy. A few hours of your time will be a valuable investment in the lives of the people CHN touches.

More than 300 volunteers gave approximately 1,500 hours of their time and talents to Community Housing Network last year. Volunteer opportunities can include:

Administration: Volunteers may assist with mailings, clerical duties, or errands.

Advocacy: Volunteers may advocate and lobby for more affordable housing by writing letters, visiting legislators, making phone calls, and more.

Adopt-a-Family Program: Volunteers may help accept and log-in donations, sort and wrap gifts, or deliver holiday packages to formerly homeless families.

Client assistance: Volunteers may assist new Leasing Assistance Program clients with apartment searches and help them negotiate with landlords.

Events: Volunteers may serve on event planning committees or assist with event tasks such as registration, coat check, set up and break down, silent auction, etc.

Home Maintenance: Volunteers may assist with minor home maintenance.

Landscaping: Volunteers may assist with winter and summer yard maintenance. (e.g. snow removal grass cutting.

Marketing/Public Relations: Volunteers with expertise in this area may assist CHN staff.

Moving: Strong volunteers may assist clients with moving into their first apartments

Oakland County Homelessness Street Count: Volunteers may assist in numerous ways with the annual Oakland County count of homeless individuals and families in January.

Photographers: Help document the work of Community Housing Network, Inc.

Training: Volunteers with special knowledge or skills may give "how to" presentations to peer advocates and/or Independent Living Club members.
Also technical volunteers may train CHN staff on new PC applications.

Transportation: Volunteers may use their own trucks, etc. to pick up and deliver furniture donations or transport clients who do not live near bus routes.

Volunteer Coordinator: Help CHN recruit and coordinate the services of our volunteers.

Work in the Housing Resource Center: Answering phones and questions of people needing affordable housing, family members, and others in the community.
