2007-12-28 - HUD GRANTS for HOUSING the HOMELESS CONTINUES

Community Housing Network Awarded $2,012,792
Troy, MI– On Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, HUD announced the renewal of 12 grants and the addition of a new grant in Macomb County.  These grant awards assure that Community Housing Network will be able to continue to secure safe and affordable rental housing for homeless individuals and families with disabilities in Oakland and Macomb Counties. It all began four years ago in August of 2003 when CHN received its first HUD grant for 40 rental housing units.  The agency has successfully submitted additional grant applications each year and with HUD’s ongoing support, the total number of rental housing units now totals 176.
Community Housing Network is dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness.   In fact, Marc Craig, CEO & President of CHN, noted that half of the homeless population consists of people with disabilities.  To date, the 172 rental housing units which are dedicated to assisting the homeless with disabilities, have become homes to 266 individuals/families and with the new grant that number will continue to grow.
