Adopt A Family Gift Distribution Kick-Off a Success

U.S. Congressman Gary Peters and other elected officials joined Community Housing Network supporters and staff on Monday, Dec. 14 to kick off distribution of Adopt A Family Gifts.

In addition to Peters, State Reps. Marie Donigan and Chuck Moss, as well as staff members from U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and U.S. Congressman Sander Levin’s office, joined in to celebrate the season and help distribute gifts.

"It’s wonderful to see people coming together to help others in time of need," said Peters about the Adopt A Family program. "I am happy to support Community Housing Network and the  work it does to promote affordable housing in our communities. In this difficult economy, many local nonprofit leaders tell me they are facing tighter resources and more demand for their services, so it’s great to see local residents stepping up and going the extra mile during the holiday season." 

Approximately 50 people attended the event that officially began distribution of the more than one thousand gifts collected by Community Housing Network.  Gifts are designated for participants of Community Housing Network’s housing programs, many of whom do not have disposable income for basic necessities.

“We are so happy to see our elected officials, supporters and program participants at this kick-off event,” said Marc Craig, Community Housing Network president and CEO.  “What a great way to start off the gift-giving season.  We have so many families in need, it’s great to see people helping in any way they can.” 

Elected officials and supporters mingled with gift recipients and Community Housing Network staff members as holiday music played in the background.  Refreshments were provided.
